Background of the Study
Data transmission efficiency is crucial for any institution that relies on digital communication systems. Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, utilizes a variety of data communication technologies to support academic and administrative functions. However, challenges related to data transmission, such as latency, packet loss, and low throughput, can impede the university's ability to deliver timely and reliable services. As online learning, research, and communication become increasingly important, optimizing data transmission efficiency is vital for ensuring high-quality service delivery (Sani & Musa, 2023).
The efficiency of data transmission depends on several factors, including network infrastructure, protocol choices, hardware performance, and network congestion (Abubakar et al., 2024). Network performance analysis can help identify bottlenecks in data flow and areas where optimization techniques can be applied. Improving data transmission efficiency can lead to faster access to academic resources, smoother video conferencing experiences, and improved service delivery across departments (Salihu et al., 2024).
This study aims to investigate the factors affecting data transmission efficiency at Federal University, Gusau, and propose methods to enhance the speed and reliability of data communication within the university’s network.
Statement of the Problem
Federal University, Gusau, has experienced issues related to inefficient data transmission, including slow data transfer rates, high latency, and packet loss. These issues affect the quality of online learning, research activities, and communication. Despite these challenges, there has been no comprehensive study to investigate the causes of these inefficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. Without addressing these issues, the university will continue to struggle with unreliable network performance, impacting both academic and administrative operations.

This study will focus on analyzing the efficiency of data transmission within Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State. The investigation will assess the current network infrastructure and identify the causes of inefficiencies. Limitations may include the availability of necessary network performance data, the challenges of testing data transmission over various network segments, and the time required to implement improvements.
